As the name indicates, this DVD shows various toy trains in action. These are the types of toy trains that grownup train enthusiasts would have in their basement. The narration is not fascinating and they tend to do again a lot of the video. They also tend to show a lot of the accessories to toy train sets such as automated log loaders and drum unloaders, etc. They especially like to show when these things don’t work and they also show a lot of toy trains falling off of tracks and bridges.
Our four-year-ancient really likes trains and he likes this DVD, but it’s not the train DVD that he questions for. Overall, our son likes to watch real, full-size trains instead of the toy trains. The train DVDs that our son likes better are “Real Wheels – There Goes a Train” and “Alphabet Train”. He likes There goes a Train the best. It is narrated by “Engineer Dave” who goes over things like how trains work, and the different types of trains, etc.

I got this DVD out of the library after my nearly-2-year-ancient fell in LOVE with parts 1 through 3. I expected more of the same, but with better production principles; I was not disappointed by the production principles (the signal and video quality is EXCELLENT, particularly in comparison to 1-3), but I have to say that both my son and I aren’t very interested in watching it. Instead of train footage accompanied by music, this video has huge amounts of commentary by the young boy “host,” nearly entirely talking about things we could care less about (loooong details of different models, when they came out, what their specs are, etc). The script was clearly written by someone a generation or two older than the boy reading it, so his comments come diagonally as awkward and stilted. I’m not saying that a boy his age would not know those words, but I have a hard time believing he would use them while garrulous about his favorite engine.
In view of the fact that at my son’s age he speech music over long, drawn out speech, and the speech makes it hard for me to talk to him about what’s going on – this is not a keeper for us. I’m glad I borrowed it from the library before buying it.

My 2-1/2 year ancient son LOVES this DVD, and all of the others as well. I can really delight in it myself, as it can be mesmerizing. Though, what I don’t delight in about this video, compared to the other volumes, is the kid that narrates it. He talks way too much and it’s just irritating. I hope this companys’ future videos leaves out the kid!

I may be sick of it, but my two year ancient twins like this DVD!!! We road tripped for 2000+ miles last month and this was the only DVD my kids wanted to watch. I tried others, but they kept asking for “choo choo”. If you’re going on vacation, you will certainly want to have this along!

I bought this DVD because I was tired of checking out the worn out video versions at the local library. My boys both LOVE it, and even my five year ancient daughter enjoys watching it sometimes. It is really cute – they show small toy trains in action, telling about the trains they represent, or just to different music. The children’s favorite parts are the “accident” segments, where things fall over and a silly accent says “Oh no!”
